Crown Thinning & Lifting
Crown Thinning
This process creates density of foliage around an equally spaced branch structure and is the selective removal of branches within a tree canopy.
Crown thinning is a partial thinning or lower branch removal to increase light into your garden, it also limits the risk of the tree uprooting in strong winds and helps to reduce the overall weight of the tree. It also serves to allow more light to pass through the tree without reducing its overall shape and size.
Trees that have undergone this process are more likely to experience new shoots, so crown thinning maybe necessary again in the future.
Crown Lifting
Crown lifting is the removal of the lower branches of a tree. Removing large branches that grow straight out from the trunk can cause harm if removed, so these are generally left untouched.
Crown lifting key benefits:
- Increased clearance for footpaths or highways
- Allows significantly more light into the garden
- Creates a better growing environment around the tree
